Unveiling the New 2018 Toyota Camry
December 12 2017 - King.tegna@gmail.com
As the holiday season rolls around, you may find yourself planning an exciting purchase for your loved one. Maybe you just want to start 2018 off right with a smoother ride. Either way, you can’t go wrong with the new 2018 Toyota Camry. Not only are there 10 incredible models to choose from this year compared with 2017’s seven models, but the more basic models also come with the sleek look usually reserved for more luxurious trims. Overall, the 2018 Toyota Camry is stronger, more efficient, better looking, safer and more technologically advanced than any of its predecessors. Read on to learn more about the specific changes between the 2017 and 2018 Toyota Camry.

Improved Powertrain

Every new release should improve on its predecessor’s power and fuel economy. The 2018 Camry does just that by ditching the old 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6 engines for the revamped 2.5-liter Dynamic Force 4-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6 engines. Their D-4S direct-injection technology means more “vroom” for your buck. How much exactly? For the 2.5-liter Dynamic Force 4-cylinder, you’ll get 206 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque versus the old 178 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. If you step it up to the 3.5-liter V6 engine, prepare for 301 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque that’ll knock your socks off when you put the pedal to the metal. Toyota also replaced the old 6-speed automatic transmission with Direct Shift 8-Speed Transmission, which means smoother transitions as you drive. For the frugal driver concerned with cost effectiveness, you’ll be happy to know the new 2018 Toyota Camry L boasts 29 mpg for city driving, 41 mpg for highway driving and 34 mpg for combined driving. Those numbers were respectively 24, 33 and 27 at best for all the 2017 non-hybrids. Talk about an upgrade!

Sleeker, Sportier Design

In a trend that’s sweeping the midsize sedan market, Toyota has ditched dull headlights for bright angular LEDs and its family-friendly look for sportier, aerodynamic drama. Everything is wider, longer and lower – by 1.3 inches, 0.4 inches, and 1.2 inches if we’re being precise – because of Toyota’s TNGA platform. The interiors have also been jazzed up with upgraded seat design and quality so you’ll be sitting in style.

More Advanced Safety Features

The 2017 scored an impressive five out of five stars for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2018 Toyota Camry builds on this precedent by adding a whole new standard suite of safety features called Standard Toyota Safety Sense™ P. Some of these features were also available in the 2017 Camry, but were treated as optional add-ons rather than essentials that ensure the safest possible driving experience.
    • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection – When someone darts unexpectedly in front of you, the new Camry will sense the obstacle and alert you with sounds and visuals. It can also apply Brake Assist to minimize damage in the case of an accident.
    • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist – Should you start to stray from a clearly marked lane when you’re driving 35 mph or more, the car will set off alerts to remind you to adjust your steering. It can also gradually redirect itself toward the center of the lane, reducing your chance of veering or sideswiping another vehicle.
    • Automatic High Beams – High beams are crucial for visibility at night, but they can be dangerous when shining into oncoming traffic. The 2018 Camry tells when other cars are around you and adjusts accordingly if you’re driving over 25 mph.
    • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control – Cruise control is a must-have for long highway drives, but the old version doesn’t properly account for other drivers’ speed changes. This new cruise control allows you to preset a speed and maintain a certain distance between you and the car in front of you. If a car happens to slow down or shorten that distance, your car will brake on its own.

Updated Tech

Technology is completely integrated with our lives, so it’s essential to have a car that matches the high performance of our laptops, tablets and smartphones. The 2018 Camry does just that by swapping the old Toyota Entune™ multimedia system for the sharper, more functional Toyota Entune™ 3.0. It comes preloaded with helpful apps you can access by hand or by voice, accurate travel navigation and a new 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that can handle up to five devices!
