With its cultural diversity and rainbow of palates, Seattleites know a thing or fifty about food. Their love of precious victuals is made clear by the many food festivals and chow-centric events that take place in the Seattle area. Washington Artisan Cheesemakers Festival
As Monty Python (not a real person, by the way) once famously said, "Blessed are the cheesemakers." On September 9, the Seattle Design Center opens its doors to over 20 creators of your favorite fromage. All cheeses at the festival are from local cows and crafted by Washington-state residents. Of course, you need food and drink to pair with your cheese — artisan producers, also from Washington, will be represented at the gala. Some of the many brewers and vineyards at the event will be Diamond Knot Brewing, Mollusk Brewery, Sound Brewery, Purple Star Wines, and Lobo Hills Winery. This event is restricted to adults 21 and older. No babies or toddlers are allowed, regardless of how much they like cheese. Admission is only $35 when purchased in advance ($40 at the door, though they're likely to sell out) and includes all the samples you can pack in. You'll also receive three drink tickets with each admission. One ticket is required for each sample of beer, and two are needed for each sample of wine.Fremont Oktoberfest
Beer is a food, right? Seattle residents can't wait for October to celebrate Oktoberfest, which is why Fremont holds their event from September 22 to September 24. Even if you don't place "liquid bread" under "food" in your mental filing cabinet, there's plenty to eat at this event. Giant Bavarian pretzels, warm and fresh, will be on everyone's minds (and in their stomachs). Bratwurst and massive servings of curly fries are must-sample vittles at the event.Seattle Restaurant Week
Twice a year, in April and October, over 160 local restaurants join forces to form one of the largest citywide food festivals in the country. Participating restaurants all over King County will offer three-course menus for only $32. Some will also offer a three-course lunch for just $18. You'll receive an appetizer, entree, and dessert, with at least three selections from each category. The meals will be available Sunday through Thursday only, with the exception of Sunday brunch. The event takes place for two weeks. Reservations are highly recommended but not required. No tickets are necessary — just show up and ask about the special Seattle Restaurant Week "prix fixe" meal. This collaboration between antique vendors, local artists, and vintage curators comes together every second Saturday at their location on the 2900 block of 1st Avenue South. What does this have to do with food, you ask? The food trucks! A caravan of gourmet food trucks, serving a smorgasbord of succulent, savory stuff, appears at the event. Even if you're not into antiquing, food trucks are all the rage and definitely worth the trip. From snacks to gourmet fare, Seattle has the food you're looking for. The only difficult part is choosing the event that best matches your cravings.
