1983
Recognizing an opportunity in the U.S. for a new vehicle that offered affordability, style and functionality, Toyota debuts the Toyota Camry on the American market. Its name comes from the Japenese word "kanmuri", meaning "crown."
1987
After adding new colors and increasing engine output after this initial debut, Toyota finally unveils the second-generation V20 Camry featuring the better interior finishing and a significant boost in horsepower.
1989
The Camry impresses consumers, becoming the fifth best-selling car in the U.S. in 1989.
1992
Toyota debuts the third generation of the Camry, increasing the model's length, width and engine size.
1997
The Camry becomes the top-selling vehicle of the year in the U.S.
2007
Toyota completely redesigns the Camry for the new millennium, adding more cabin space, switching to an angular body shape and introducing gas-electric hybrid options.
2013
The Toyota Camry celebrates 16 consecutive years as the top-selling vehicle in the U.S. since 1997.
2017
The 2018 Toyota Camry debuts featuring the latest technology, including the standard Toyota Safety Sense pre-collision and pedestrian detection system, an eight-inch multimedia touchscreen interface, an illuminated 10-inch windshield-projected HUD and much more.
