Seattle is a bustling city that offers plenty of exciting things for children to enjoy. Whether you live here and you're looking for ways to entertain your kids or you're visiting and want to line up some fun ideas to help give them a memorable trip, you don't want to miss out on these top destinations.
Seattle Aquarium
Located on the Elliott Bay waterfront at Pier 59, the Seattle Aquarium offers a unique look at the plants and animals that live in waters just off the Seattle coastline. The Window on Washington Waters exhibit replicates the coastal water from 5 to 60 feet deep and features sea anemones, rockfish, and salmon. The Underwater Dome exhibit sits under a 400,000-gallon tank filled with salmon, skates, sturgeon, and sharks.
Seattle Children's Museum
Geared toward children between 10 months and 10 years of age, the Seattle Children's Museum offers 22,000 square feet of learning and play space. The Discovery Bay toddler area is just for children three years old and younger. It has touchable and moveable objects designed to encourage exploration. The Global Village exhibit will take kids on a mini trip to Japan, Ghana, and the Philippines, and the Imagination Studio lets inspiring artists showcase their creativity.
Museum of Pop Culture
Dedicated to contemporary popular culture, the Museum of Pop Culture explores music, movies, television shows, books, and comic books. One of the most popular exhibits at the museum is the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame, which honors creators and artifacts. You can see items like Captain Kirk's command chair from "Star Trek," the T800 Terminator, and Indiana Jones' hat and jacket. Kids can also rock out as loud as they want in the soundproof rooms at the Sound Lab.
Woodland Park Zoo
For the animal lovers in the family, no trip to Seattle is complete without a stop at the Woodland Park Zoo. This 92-acre zoo is home to over 1,000 animals, including 35 endangered species and 5 threatened species. Stop by the Tropical Asia exhibit to see Malayan tigers, sloth bears, and orangutans. The Northern Trail exhibit is designed to resemble a hiking trail in Alaska's Denali National Park and is home Roosevelt elk, timber wolves, and grizzly bears. You can also visit the Tropical Rain Forest exhibit to see gorillas, ocelots, and poison arrow frogs.
Museum of Flight
If your children are fascinated by flight, you won't want to miss the opportunity to check out the Museum of Flight. Located just south of Seattle at the King County International Airport, it's the largest private air and space museum in the world. During your visit, your kids can view over 150 aircraft, including the first presidential jet, a replica of the airplane Amelia Earhart was piloting when she disappeared, and the world's first fighter plane. They can also try out flight simulators and discover more about space exploration.
When you're in Seattle with your children and looking for something they'll enjoy, everyone will have a great time when you plan a visit to these top kid-friendly attractions.
